One of the most common things I hear from clients is “I wish I’d started therapy years ago”.
While therapy is an ongoing process, people often share with me that they feel tremendous relief in the first session simply from having spoken their thoughts and feelings aloud to someone who listens with care and non-judgment. It is completely normal to feel nervous about starting therapy. It is understandable to be hesitant, given that you may have tried many – so many! – different tools to help yourself to deal with challenging thought patterns or overwhelming emotions. Therapy may be an excellent choice if you haven’t noticed lasting positive change by exploring self-help avenues, you are at an impasse, or you are wanting to deepen your understanding of yourself. When you begin therapy what you’re truly beginning is a journey – one that may be unfamiliar, sometimes daunting, but ultimately deeply rewarding.
